Outdoor Curling to Check Out This Winter

Curling has become extremely popular not only as a league sport but as a beer league sport. For those looking for a more casual and authentically Minnesotan experience, try curling outdoors! If you want a more consistent experience or ready to explore an indoor curling league, see my post of 4 Indoor Curling Clubs to Try this winter.

Forgotten Star Brewing Company

38 Northern Stacks Drive, Fridley, MN 55421

In some ways, Forgotten Star Brewing Company has added a chilly refresh to the game, by bringing it back outside! They have two backyard style curling rinks which are about half the size of the regulation rinks. With lighter rocks and old-style brooms, you will for sure have fun out there. You can rent the sheets of ice but if there are no rentals, Forgotten Star lets you use the ice for free.

Though it is chilly now, The Brookview Golf course has a solution to enjoy curling in the mild or chilly temps. The Brookview Golf and Lawn Bowling has four synthetic curling rinks on their lawn bowling greens. They are open seven days a week during the winter with beer leagues and lane rentals. No need to bring official curling shoes, brooms, or equipment. This is a super casual and fun way for beginners to play and hang out.

Sociable Cider Werks has a standard size ice rink with three curling lanes. The ice lights up at night with LED lights for a cool atmosphere. Not only is this space used for curling, but also ice skating. Sociable has all of the equipment and walk-ins are welcome if there is an open lane. If you are looking for the ultimate beer league experience, join the Sociable beer league or Bonspiel.
